Emily Black – 2023
How did you achieve this look?
I am a big fan of a really bold cut crease which has always been one of my favorite techniques. I love that with this method, I can completely reshape the structure of my eye. I also wanted to include some detail work so I decided to add a small heart by the wing. For this look, I started off by priming my eyelid with Fenty Beauty concealer, and then I went in with the James Charles x Morphe palette for eyeshadow. I finished off the eye look with Revlon mascara and eyeliner, and went in again with Fenty Beauty concealer. Finally, I set my face with the Airspun setting powder to finalize the look.
What’s your go-to beauty look?
My favorite look of all time is winged eyeliner, so I wear it literally every day. I love how bold and accentuated it makes my eyes look. I also love using a bright highlight shade in the inner corner of my eye and on my brow bone to make my eyes really open up and pop. Something I have also recently started to do is add a subtle shimmer on the bridge and tip of my nose.
What got you into makeup?
I have always been in love with makeup. In middle school, the only makeup my mom would let me wear was blush and pink eyeshadow, which was an atrocious combination. I still wore it to school though because I got so excited by the idea of essentially painting on my face. Ever since that point, makeup has always been something I am really passionate about.
What’s your favorite little-known makeup hack?
I feel like this is something a lot of people know that I was just late to the game on, but using rubbing alcohol to salvage broken eyeshadow, blush, bronzer, etc. is a really useful trick that everyone should know. First, break up the remaining eyeshadow as much as possible. Then, pour a little rubbing alcohol into the shadow so that it is saturated and mixed. After that, all you have to do is wait for it to dry and then it’s as good as new!
What’s your holy grail product?
I have super noticeable dark circles underneath my eyes. I remember I spent a long time searching for a concealer that would cover them completely. It was a really frustrating process, but my friend introduced me to Fenty Beauty concealer and I have been a die-hard fan ever since.
What was your favorite ROCKET shoot?
My favorite shoot was “For the Record” from the Spring/Summer 2014 issue!
